Fair is in full swing

If you haven’t been to the Barton County Fair yet this week, time is running out.
Exhibits were checked in Wednesday and Thursday. All of the food has been judged, along with the horticulture, clothing, quilts, photography, woodworking, rocketry, rabbits, poultry and crops.
But there’s still time, and the Barton County Fair is in full swing today, Saturday and Sunday. There’s a carnival, concerts and free stage entertainment, commercial exhibits and a display by the Golden Belt Model Railroad Association. After the business appreciation breakfast this morning, there’s the 4-H goat show, Bernard J. Ohnmacht Memorial Shepherd’s Lead, 4-H sheep show, 4-H beef show and ATV rodeo.
On Saturday, fair goers can watch mutton bustin’, more animal shows, an antique tractor pull and pedal tractor pulls for kids and adults. The Community Bank Watermelon Feed is at 5 p.m., and don’t forget the carnival, exhibits, concert and free stage entertainment.
Sunday starts with a non-denominational worship service and breakfast, 4-H small animal and livestock round robins and the 4-H barbecue, 4-H rocket launch and 4-H showcase awards, the Farm Bureau Association’s root beer float social and the Sale of Champions.
It’s worth facing the heat to visit the fair, but time is running out. Come Monday, all that will be left is the clean-up.
