Register, and then vote

Anyone who wants to participate in the coming general election — it is scheduled for Nov. 2, for all of you who’ve been sleeping — and who hasn’t bothered to register to vote, is running out of time.
Elsewhere in today’s Tribune, you will find a list of places you can register in the county.
There really are a lot of them, so there’s not a lot of excuse for not bothering to register.
Registration remains open until next Monday, so there’s still plenty of time, too.
To participate in the election process, you have to:
• Be 18 years of age or older.
• Be a United States citizen.
• Be a resident of Kansas.
If you’re not sure about your registration status, contact the Barton County Clerk’s Office in the courthouse and they can tell you if you are ready to go.
If you have never registered and you will be 18 by the election, what are you waiting for?
This is a terrific opportunity to exercise the civic rights that we take for granted, but which are the envy of pretty much the whole rest of the world.
Voting is certainly not the least important responsibility of an American citizen, but face it, it is one of the easiest and it is free.
So if you are not signed up, do something about it, and welcome to American citizenship!
