“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.” — Philippians 4:8
Sometimes that is easier to read, than to do.
Frequently, as a matter of fact, that is easier read than done.
It’s easy to see why.
We are constantly bombarded with “no,” “you can’t,” “everything is wrong.”
It’s easy to come up with all that is wrong. We are surrounded with it. All you need to do is turn on the idiot box and you’re drowned in it.
But last Wednesday, if you were driving by Great Bend High School early in the morning, you would have seen something that was right.
Something that was, to borrow Scripture: “right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy.”
As the photo shows, you’d have seen a group of young Great Bend citizens who were gathering together to lift up their community in prayer.
It was the annual “See You at the Pole,” an effort that began in 1990 and has grown into a major event.
As the organizers of the event note: “See You at the Pole is simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flag pole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God. See You at the Pole is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event.”
These students, and there were a lot of them out there, have a lot of hurdles before them.
Face it, so does every generation that hopes to make a difference in a world that is set to drop kick them if it can.
But not everything that these kids do, say and believe is wrong. They DO have central beliefs, whether adults recognize it or not.
There is much that is excellent and praiseworthy about this generation, as they showed this week.
Way to go, kids.
