Barton 4x100-meter relay team sets meet record in Norman, Okla.

NORMAN, Okla. — The Barton Community College track and field men’s team won three events and set a meet record at John Jacobs Invitational on Saturday at the University Oklahoma. Barton’s 4x100-meter relay team set the meet record while Carmetrick Ross won both the long jump and triple jump for Barton at the meet. In addition, Barton took second in five events. The women’s team placed in six events during the competition highlighted by a runner-up effort from Marcelo Solano in the hammer throw.
Barton will be in Arkansas this weekend for the John McDonnell Invitational then at home on Satureday, April 30, to host the Barton Invitational.
 
Highlights
MEN

The sprinters and jumpers had good days at the John Jacobs, highlighted by the 4x100 relay team, along with Ross. The relay team of Jeremy Hardy, Markquis Frazier, Everett Walker, and Oliver Bradwell took gold with a meet record effort of 39.40. That broke the old meet record of 39.54 set by Oklahoma back in 1984.
Aleec Harris also broke a meet record in the 110 hurdles, but took second in the event with a 13.65. He was beaten by former BCC standout Ryan Brathwaite with a 13.58 for the new meet record. The old mark was 13.69 set in 1976. Walker took second in the 100 and 200 for Barton. He was second in the 100 (10.53) and runner-up in the 200 (20.79). Bradwell was third in 200 (21.15) and Hardy was seventh (21.50). Ryder Eakin was eighth in the 3000.
 
In the field, Ross was the star for Barton winning two jumping events — both dominated by Barton. Ross won the long jump with a leap of 24-9, besting teammate Chris Toombs who took second at 23.6.25. Bradley Hines was fifth at 22-1. Barton also went 1-2 in the triple jump with Ross winning at 49-6 1/4  and Hines taking second with a leap of 48-8 1/4.
 
In the throwing events, Matt Marcoccia was the highest finisher for Barton with his second-place heave of 55.5.75 in the shot put. Frank Afriyie placed in two events, taking fourth in the discus with a toss of 158-5 and fifth in the hammer with a throw of 175-3. Also placing in the discus was Tyler Rathke with sixt place (157-3) and Marcoccia took home seventh (155-2).
 
WOMEN
Solano took second in the hammer with a throw of 178-4. The winning effort was a throw of Mykal Imbrock at 187-0. Solano is in quest of the Barton school record, which is currently held by Ariel Brooks with a throw of 183-3. Solano has thrown the hammer 181-7 this year.
 
Sametra Kelly and Janee Mickens placed in two events for the Cougars in the field in Norman. Kelly took fourth and seventh in the jumping events, while Mickens was fourth and eighth in throwing events.
 
Kelly was fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 38-0 3/4 and seventh in the long jump at 18-1 3/4. Mickens took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 45-7 3/4 and eighth in the hammer with a throw of 140-6. The highest finish of the day came from Brittany Hughes, who finished third in the javelin with a throw of 115-5.
