Barton baseball drops 2 of 3 at Rose State.

The Jayhawk West baseball season is just one weekend in. Just four games. But the Barton Cougars are looking like they just may be the team beat this year.
Barton hammered Hutchinson in a pair of games Saturday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field to complete a series sweep of the Blue Dragons after winning two on the road Thursday.
Barton won the opener Saturday, 12-1, then scored a second run-rule win in the nightcap, 16-6.
Barton is 4-0 in the West and and 17-2 on the season. Barton has won 12 straight games. Hutch, 0-4 in the West, is 13-5 on the season and had won 10 straight leading up the West opening series.
In the first game Saturday, Barton scored four times in the bottom of the first and never looked back. The Cougars added three more in the third and five in the fourth, ending the game after the top of the fifth due to the 11-run lead.
Trailing 1-0 into the bottom of the first, Barton immediately tied it when Alex Rodgers doubled, went to third on the throw and scored on a sac fly by Andrew Stewart.
Before the inning was over, Carson Pracht and Tristan Charles both added doubles and the Cougars were well on their way.
Barton added three more in third, highlighted by a Geekie leadoff home run.
If there was any doubt about the outcome, Adam Schrag ended it in the fourth with a grand slam home run to make it a 12-1 game. Pracht had led off the inning with a homer as well.
Easton Young went all five innings, giving up five hits and striking out five to improve to 5-0.
If the 4-run first in the opener set a tone, the explosion for nine runs in the opening frame of the second game delivered a knock out punch for Barton.
The Cougars went through three Hutch pitchers, sent 13 batters to the plate, collected nine hits and a walk.
Rodgers led off the inning with a home run and later added a single as he, Stewart and Chandler Bloomer all had two hits in the inning.
Connor Scott also homered in the inning – a 2-run blast to make it a 6-0 game.
Bloomer, Pracht and Geekie each drove in three runs while Rodgers and Bloomer both had three hits. Rodgers, Stewart and Bloomer all scored three times.
Barton will play North Iowa Area in a single game at 1 pm Monday at Lawson-Biggs Field then get back into West play hosting Colby for two in Thursday.
