The Barton Community College men’s soccer team advanced its Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference record to 7-0 after beating Johnson County in the final minutes of their game on Saturday at Cougar Fields.
With one minute, 34 seconds left to play in the game, Barton’s Dula Fadis became the game’s hero, when he found the net on a rebound off a shot from Sam McCrillis.
Johnson County scored first early in the first half of the game, when Marc Schwingen beat Barton goalkeeper Nathan Garrison after a corner kick opportunity.
The Cougars knotted the game at one when Ricardo Yeverino received a pass in the box from Ahmad Bah. Yeverino finished by burying the ball into the net.
The goal was Yeverino’s 10th of the season, the second Barton player to reach 10 after McCrillis, who has 11.
The Cougars had 16 shots compared to the Cavaliers’ six.
With the win, the Cougars strengthen their position at the top of the KJCCC, being the only team without two losses in conference play. Barton currently sits in second place in Region VI behind Cloud County, who has a regional record of 8-2.
Lady Cougars lose perfect KJCCC record
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team lost its perfect record in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference after a 1-0 loss to Johnson County at Cougar Fields on Saturday.
After the first half, the Lady Cougars found themselves in a scoreless standstill with Johnson County. But less than 10 minutes into the second half, the Lady Cavaliers Jenna Neuman got a pass in the box from Thomasenia Bouknight and beat goalkeeper Corey LaMoureaux to score the only goal of the game.
Johnson County outshot the Lady Cougars 25 to 13, getting 13 shots on goal.
LaMoureaux made 12 saves in the game, and now has 60 on the season. Her save percentage is just under 90 percent, with seven goals allowed all season.
The loss puts the Lady Cougars in third place in the KJCCC standings behind Johnson County, 6-0, and Hutchinson, 8-0.
