After moving the baseball game’s location from Kansas City, Mo., to Great Bend, Barton Community College and MCC-Longview had to fight rain and even a tornado warning just to play the first game of its doubleheader on Saturday.
The Cougars fell 8-7 in the first game at Lawson-Biggs Field, but the second game was suspended until today at noon with the Lakers ahead 8-3 in the top of the sixth inning.
Longview was able to get ahead early in the first game, scoring two runs in the top of the first against Barton right-hander Ashton Sivigliano.
Sivigliano went 3 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits. He had seven strikeouts and four walks.
Longview’s Austin Hill hit a solo home run.
Alex King, leading off the Cougars lineup, went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a walk.
Frederico Castagnini went 2 for 3 with a walk and three RBIs.
Following the conclusion of Saturday’s second game, both teams will continue with today’s scheduled doubleheader.
