Barton men open outdoor season with seven wins at Emporia

The outdoor season in underway for the Barton mens track team. After finishing second by the narrowest of margin at the NJCAA Indoor Championships, Barton began its quest for an outdoor title in Emporia.

EMPORIA – The outdoor season in underway for the Barton men’s track team. After finishing second by the narrowest of margin at the NJCAA Indoor Championships, Barton began its quest for an outdoor title in Emporia.
The Cougars captured seven first place finishes the Emporia Spring Open. As a team Barton scored 169 points followed by Pittsburg State with 90.5, Emporia State with 88 and Butler with 79.83.
Leading the way was Samson Colebrook, winning the 200m and taking second in the 100m. Colebrook ran a 20.9 to win the 200m. Dartez Hamlin was third in 21.33 and Kemarni Mighty eighth in 22.05.
Colebrook ran a 10.31 for his runner-up spot in the 100m with Demetri Keaton fifth in 10.63.
Tallan James won the 800m in 1:57.44. Kyle Mason led a trio of Cougars in the 400m with second place finish in 49.25. Michale Reyes (49.3) was third and Hamlin (49.38) fourth.
The Cougars swept the hurdles with Stephon Torrence winning the 110m hurdles in 14.31 and Kenroy Williams the 400m hurdles in 53.33. Brandon Felix was third in the 400m hurdles in 54.93 and Marquise Hill fourth at 55.04.
Barton won a pair of jumping events with Willie Rodgers winning the long jump and Alvin McCray the triple jump. Rodgers jumped 23-11 in the long jump and McCray 49-9 in the triple. Cirr Davis was third in the triple jump at 47-6.25 and seventh in the long jump at 22-7. Timothy Wilson took sixth in the triple with a jump of 46-4.
Barton took second in two throwing events with Kevin Nedrick second in the discus (158-9) and Enrique Martinez second in the hammer (188-5). Graham Sokol was fourth in the hammer (172-6) and Sanjae Lawrence seventh in the discus (147-5).
The Cougars 4x100m relay team took first and second, running both an A and B team. Barton finished second in the 4x400m.
Barton will head to the Texas Relays in two weeks.
