Barton sweeps trio of home duals
spt CougarHead2C

It was definitely an exciting day at the Barton Gym Tuesday. Wrestling took center stage with four teams wrestling against each other in the Cougars Duals.
When it was done, the Barton wrestlers were unbeaten with three exciting wins. Barton, ranked No. 19, opened with a 30-18 win over Pratt, followed with a tight 19-17 win over Labette then closed out the night with a 26-19 win over No. 16 Northwest Tech.
The sweep moved Barton’s dual record to 7-6 on the season.
Three Cougars went unbeaten on the night. Kendall Biddle, David Kelly and Ethan Dean all posted 3-0 records. Biddle won all three matches at 165 by a decision, Kelly won two by fall and another by forfeit at 174. Dean won by a technical fall, a forfeit and an overtime decision at 197.
The most exciting dual of the night came in the middle match against Labette. Labette led nearly the entire way. Following a technical fall win for the Cardinals at 184, Labette retook a 17-13 lead on Barton with two matches to go.
That match at 197 saw Dean pull out a 3-1 sudden victory to pull the Cougars to within one with Brix Brickey taking the mat at 285 in the final match of the dual. Brickey took an early lead in the match and went on to win 6-3 to cap Barton’s rally with a 19-17 win over Labette.
Barton also had to come from behind in the finale against Northwest Tech. The Cougars fell behind 15-6 early in the dual.
At that point, Barton reeled off four straight wins – two by fall and one by technical fall – to take the lead. Biddle started it with a 7-1 win and Kelly and Devon Baker followed with pins. When Dean posted a technical fall win at 197, the Cougars wrapped up the win, leading 26-15 into the final match.
That final match at 285 pitted Brickey, ranked No. 8, against Odgerek Batkhishig, ranked No. 2. Batkhishig won the match, 16-7.
The Cougars will be back on the mat this weekend with Kansas Duals in Hays on Sunday.
