Barton sophomore Peerada Piddon launches her approach Saturday during the Cougars season-opening meet at StoneRidge. Piddon shot a 1-under par during the meet to win individual honors by 10 strokes. Barton won the team title by 22 strokes.

It never gets boring. Winning, that is.
The Barton women’s golf team can attest to that. The Cougars began their pursuit of their fifth straight conference title with an impressive showing on its home course this past weekend.
Barton shot a 519 over 27 holes at StoneRidge Country Club in Great Bend, easily winning the Jayhawk Conference meet No. 1 by 22 strokes. Dodge City came in second with a 541 while Coffeyville finished third at 566.
“It’s a good start for us,” Barton Coach Doug Kaiser said. “Not only did we win the first meet in conference, but we defended our home turf. That’s important.”
The battle for the individual top spot was a familiar one – with a familiar result. Three Thailand sophomores went head-to-head much like last year when they were all freshman.
And much like last year it was Barton’s Peerada Piddon winning. Piddon shot an even par 71 the opening day then finished with a 1-under par 35 on the second day for her winning total of 1-under 106.
“I’m not surprised by her score,” Coach Kaiser said of the under par effort by Piddon. “That is the pretty much the scores she has been turning during practice this year on the course. She is hitting the ball very solid right now.”
That bested the duo from Dodge City which took second and third. Rachanok Rahulpan shot a 78-38 and finished 10 strokes back at 116. It was another 10 shots back to third where Orakorn Thirayatorn finished with a 126.
The win was the fourth conference win in her career in seven total meets. The 1-under total was her best effort in league play as well as a full eight strokes better than her previous best at StoneRidge.
As a team, Barton placed four in the top 10 not counting a fifth that shot as an individual.
McKenzie Fabrizius was consistent with a 90-45 for a 135, tied for fifth. Kendra Jellison tied for seventh with a 91-47 for 138 total while Miranda Kern used a big second day to shoot 100-43 and a tie for 10th at 143.
Individually, Olivia Neuenswander tied for seventh at 138 with teammate Jellison after shooting 93-45.
The Cougars team was rounded out by sophomore Janae Champlin with a 97-51 – 148. Also playing as an individual was Taylor Becker who shot a 115-50-165.
Barton will step outside of conference play for the only time this fall when they travel to Bartlesville, Okla. in a meet wrapping up Tuesday. The Cougars will play at Adams Municipal Golf Course.
