Dionne Harris scored 17 points, post player Netanya Jackson added 15 and point guard Raven Adams put in 12, leading Barton Community College’s women’s basketball team to a 74-70 win over Butler Monday night.
It was the third straight win for the Lady Cougars, who improved to 10-8, 3-2 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division.
It was the first conference loss in four games for Butler (13-5, 3-1).
The Lady Cougars travel to nationally-ranked Hutchinson on Wednesday, with game time set for 5:30 p.m.
Barton went on a 9-0 run during the opening 2 ½ minutes of the second half for a 44-32 lead on Adams’ layup off an Alisha Fanshier feed. Adams had six points during that stretch, and then Jackson made two free throws and Shea Shoemaker’s basket gave the Cougars a 48-32 lead with 15:49 remaining, their biggest lead of the game.
BCC, coming off a last-minute victory over Garden City on Saturday, outscored the Grizzlies 14-7 over the final 8:20 of the opening quarter to go ahead 35-32 at halftime.
On the heels of an 8-0 run , Butler had a 21-15 advantage at the 9:53 mark.
But the Lady Cougars answered with an 8-2 spurt, started by a driving layup and a 3-pointer by point guard Raven Adams, her second basket making it 27-26 at the 5:40 mark.
It was also BCC’s final basket of the half as it shot 10 free throws from that juncture, with Jackson converting 1 of 2 for the Lady Cougars three-point advantage. They made 17 of 27 free throws in the first half.
Barton shot 40 percent (8 for 20), with Dionne Harris finishing with eight first-half points, hitting 3 of 6 field goals and a pair of free throws.
