It was quite a finish to the Jayhawk Conference double dual matches at the Barton Gym this past week.

Barton hosted No. 11 Neosho and No. 5 Cowley in the double dual, with the final dual of the night going down to the wire.

Barton opened the evening with a dominating 42-4 win over No. 11 Neosho. The next match saw No. 5 Cowley shut out No. 11 Neosho, 46-0, setting up the final dual of the night between the Cougars and the Tigers.

That battle went to the final match before Cowley escaped the Barton Gym with a narrow 21-18 win over the Cougars.

Barton was not ranked in the only poll the NJCAA has released to date back in late January.

The Cougars lost just one match against No. 11 Neosho. Barton won four of the 10 matches by fall as Drew Chavez (157), Bryan Ford (174), Davontai Robinson (184) and Ayston Perez (285) all pinned their foes.

Major decision wins for Barton were Drew Liles (125), Drew Burgoon (141), and Stephen Duffy (165).

In the dual with the 5th ranked Tigers, each team won five matches.

Drew Liles got Barton off with win over No. 6 Austin Kincaid, 8-6. Cowley won the two matches, one by a pin, to take a 9-3 lead on Barton.

Cody Liles scored a pin for Barton at 149 then Chavez and Duffy followed with decision and Barton led, 15-9. The lead increased to 18-9 after a tie-breaker win by Ford at 174.

Cowley would earn a pin by Ryan Locke at 184. Trezen Doren of Barton lost a hard-fought battle with 8th ranked Matt Santos at 197 to even the match at 18-all.

The dual came down the final match at 285 between Perez of Barton and Ausin Thornton of Cowley.

The two went to the third and final period tied at 2-all. In that period, Thornton scored a point for riding as Perez was unable to score an escape starting on the bottom.

Next on the docket for the Cougars will be 8th ranked Pratt Tuesday at the Barton Gym.
