DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Barton Community College cheer and dance teams competed over the weekend at the 2011 NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship with both placing in the top 5 of their respective divisions. The cheer squad finished in fourth place at the National Cheerleaders Association’s championships in the junior college division.
The dance team was in competition for a national title but ended in fifth place in the tightly contest National Dance Association championships. The competitions were held in Daytona Beach on April 6-9.
Cheer
The cheer team had to make several adjustments during its time in Florida. On the night prior to the competition a cheerleader went down with an injury and Barton’s alternate was moved into the routine. Barton finished the event with a score to 8.315, not far from third place at 8.746. The Cougars were fifth each of the last three years and third in 2007.
