CONCORDIA — It wasn’t the weekend the Barton Community College softball team had hoped for, but it did end on a positive note as the Lady Cougars came from behind to beat Southeast 9-6 on Sunday to wrap up the Cloud County tournament.
Barton lost all three games on Saturday in scoring only two runs as Iowa Western beat Barton 7-1 followed by a 9-1 loss to Western Nebraska. Barton closed out Saturday’s games by losing to host Cloud County 6-0.
Sunday didn’t start well for Barton in falling 8-0 to Brown Mackie.
After trailing 5-3 after four innings against Southeast on Sunday, Barton scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning as the Lady Cougars pounded out three doubles and three singles.
After both teams scored a run in the fifth inning, Barton added an insurance run in the sixth and held on in the seventh to capture the 9-6 victory. Barton will return to the field today for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Dodge City then travel to Concordia on Thursday to play Cloud County again in a doubleheader.
