NORFOLK, Neb. – It was a tough way to start the season for the Barton women’s soccer team.
But it was just that, the opener. Barton made the 5-hour bus ride to Norfolk, Neb. and came home on the short end of a 2-0 score against Northeast Community College.
The game was scoreless at the intermission. Northeast got on the board in the opening five minutes of the second half when Valentina Haboush took a corner kick rebound in the box and put the ball into the net.
The lead grew to 2-0 10 minutes later as Ellie Gess of Northeast scored on a free kick from 35-yards out.
Barton is back on the pitch today as the Central Christian College junior varsity pays a visit for Barton’s home opener at 2 p.m.
Following the game against Central Christian, Barton will have a week off before beginning a 5-game road stretch that includes four Jayhawk West games.
