Saturday night marks the conclusion of the regular season for the Barton Community College basketball teams.
The Cougars will host Pratt, with the women’s game beginning at 6 and the men’s game following it at about 8.
In their last meeting the Cougars left Pratt with a pair of wins. The women won, 87-70.
Since then, Pratt is 2-4 with its two wins coming on the road against Colby and Dodge City.
In the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division standings, the Barton women sit at third place with a record of 19-10 overall, 11-4 in the West.
Hutchinson, 27-2, 14-1, is in first place and Cloud County, 21-6, 12-3, is in second place.
With a win and a Cloud loss to Hutchinson on Saturday, Barton will finish second in the standings with Cloud.
If that occurs, the result of the Seward County-Butler game will decide who will finish in second place.
If Butler wins, the Cougars will finish in second and if Seward wins, Cloud will remain above BCC.
“It’s nice to have something to play for,” Barton head coach Keith Ferguson said. “We obviously need help to take second, but we still need to win. It’s easier to get motivated, but I think the team wants to win.
“They got mad when they lost to Hutchinson and I think they just don’t want to lose, no matter what’s at stake.”
Kinsley Hilst and Holly Martin lead the Lady Beavers in scoring, averaging 11.3 points per game. Cari Guyton averages 10.5 points per game having played in more games than Hilst or Martin.
“We really need to slow down their bigs,” Ferguson said. “We didn’t do a very good job of that the first time around. we also need to get out on their 3-point shooters faster.”
The Cougars’ top scorer is Christina Caddy, who averages 13.1 points per game, shooting 36.6 percent from the field.
Alisha Fanshier averages 12.5 points per game, shooting 30.5 percent from three-point range.
“I think our defense needs to stay tight,” Ferguson said. “But I’d like to see our kids get into an offensive groove again. Netanya  (Jackson) and Dionne (Harris) have been doing well lately, but we really need to get Alisha and Christina going again.”

BCC men look
to continue success
against Pratt

The Barton men captured a 79-72 win on a last-minute 7-1 run to put some separation between them in their last meeting with Pratt.
Since then, the Cougars are 1-6, crashing their record to 18-11, 6-9. Pratt is 13-16, 4-11, and sits at the bottom of the Western standings.
BCC is currently in seventh in the KJCCC west.
The Beavers’ top scorer is Terry Taylor, who averages 15.8 points per game. Nikolas Skouen is second, scoring 14.4 per game.
Dwayne Brunson leads the Cougars with 14.1 points per game, hitting 50.4 percent from the field.
Colin Beatty averages 13.1 points per game and Storm Sanders averages 10 points per game, hitting 34.8 percent from beyond the arc.
