CONCORDIA — The Barton Community College men’s basketball team breezed to a 79-57 drumming of Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division foe Cloud County on Wednesday night to close the regular season.
Barton improves to 25-5 overall, 12-4 in the West. Cloud County falls to 14-16, 5-11.
The Cougars used the game as a tuneup for a first-round NJCAA Region VI postseason tournament game.They play host to Allen, out of Iola, on Saturday at 3 p.m. inside Kirkman Activity Center.
On Wednesday night, Barton built a 45-34 lead by halftime and never led the Thunderbirds within 10 points in the second half.
Kevin Kuteyi led Barton with 18 points, going 5-for-9 from the field.
Cougars freshman Trey Unrau unleashed a torrent of 3-pointers, going 5-for-6 from beyond the arc, to score 15 points.
Andell Cumberbatch recorded a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Al Key passed Ebi Ere for fifth place on Barton’s career scoring chart.
Key scored 12 points, bringing his total to 1,152. He needs 38 points to pass Jackie Jones for No. 4 on the list.
With 10 assists, Key also secured a double-double.
The Cougars were a collective 12-for-21 (51.1 percent) from 3-point range.
Edward Dyson scored a game-leading 21 points to lead the Thunderbirds.
