It was the final game of the regular season, and the Barton Community College men’s basketball team finally got it right in overtime.
Tied at 78 as regulation ran down, the Cougars put in 17 points to best Pratt on Saturday night at Kirkman Athletic Center.
It was the sixth game that BCC ran into overtime this season, and it was the first time that the Cougars were able to finish on top.
With the win, Barton, 19-11 overall and 7-9 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division, will travel to Cowley as the No. 7 seed in the NJCAA Region VI tournament on Tuesday.
Dwayne Brunson and Adam Young scored 18 points apiece to lead Barton, two of four double-figure scorers for the Cougars, who displayed a balanced offensive attack.
Colin Beatty added 14 points and DeVonte Grant added 10 for BCC, while Storm Sanders added nine, Darius Hill scored eight and Kevin Barber put in four.
Early on, a Sanders 3-pointer from the left wing gave the Cougars their first lead of the night, and after Terry Taylor’s two points made it 8-7 in Pratt’s favor, BCC went on a 7-0 run fueled by a Jalen Boyd three-point play and a Colin Beatty layup to make up 14-8 at the 14:41 mark.
BCC led by as much as 20-13 at the 9:52 mark, but some solid three-point shooting from the Beavers closed the gap to 33-32 in Barton’s favor at halftime.
