Lady Cougars drop home opener

The Barton Community College volleyball team opened the 2014 home season Wednesday night at the Kirkman Activity Center, losing in four sets to Seward County.
In the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference opener for both teams, the undefeated Saints controlled most of the match in capturing 25-16, 17-25, 25-16 and 25-19 set victories to win the match 3-1.  
The loss drops Barton to 0-5 to start the season while Seward County improves to 5-0.  
Barton will have two more home matches this week during their four-game homestand.  
The junior varsity from Friends University will come to the Barton Gym Friday for a 6 p.m. contest then the Lady Cougars have less than 24 hours before taking the court against Division-II No. 2-ranked Cowley College.  
The Tigers defeated Barton 3-1 last Friday in the Reiver Classic in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Match time for Saturday’s contest set for 3 p.m.
The Lady Cougars will wrap up the homestand with a Wednesday, Sept. 3, conference battle with Garden City before embarking on a 21-day, 14-match streak away from the Barton Gym.
