SALINA — Leading by four strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round, the Barton Community College women’s golf team took care of business in winning the Colby Women’s Invitational at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Barton shot a team score of 343 on the final 18 holes to easily distance second-place Colby’s 394 as the Lady Cougars were aided by the withdrawal of a Dodge City golfer due to illness.
The Lady Cougar’s victory tied Dodge City in the season’s conference race at three team titles each, thus creating a sharing of the conference title and securing Barton’s second consecutive crown.
The Lady Cougars will begin preparation for a possible third straight trip to the national championships as they will compete on April 28-29 at the NJCAA Region VI Championships at Hutchinson’s Carey Park Golf Course.
Natthakan Teeratrakul won her second conference meet of the season to become the third straight Lady Cougars golfer to win a conference meet, firing a low round of 79 to outdistance second-place Jodi Saito of Dodge City by five strokes.
The Lady Cougars also placed six golfers in the top 10 individual standings, including all five team members and medalist Blakelee Cooper making the list.
