HUCTHINSON — The Barton Community College women’s golf team won their second straight NJCAA Region VI Championship on Tuesday at Hutchinson’s Carey Park Golf Course.
Despite teeing off in inclement weather, the field battled adversity to post solid second-round scores with the Lady Cougars coming out on top by 88 strokes over second-place Colby.
Barton shot rounds of 366 and 359 for a tournament-leading 725, while Colby posted rounds of 409 and 404 to finish at 813.
Dodge City and Coffeyville did not field a complete team, but placed four of their five golfers in the top 10.
The Lady Cougars, who have won three of the past four region championships, placed five golfers in the top 10 which qualifies Barton as a team entry into the NJCAA Women’s Golf Championship held May 12-15 at the LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Barton’s Natthakan Teeratrakul rebounded from an off-day 91 to shave 11 strokes on her second day to fire an 80 to finish tied with the first-round leader Jodi Saito at 171.
Teeratrakul got the second-place honor after dropping a nine-foot putt to defeat Saito on the first playoff hole.
Coffeyville’s Sydney Guinn took home the individual championship, carding an 87 on the first round then tying Teeratrakul’s second-round low score of 80 to win by four strokes at 167.
