PRATT — After suffering a 7-3 defeat in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Monday, the Barton Community College softball team bounced back in the second game, winning 4-1 against Pratt.
The win snapped a nine-game losing streak, and improved Barton’s record to 7-13 overall. The Lady Beavers moved to 17-21 on the season.
Pratt jumped on the Lady Cougars in the first inning of Game 1, scoring four runs.
The lead would hold at four until a Shelby Plank single scored Ashlyn Osborne in the top of the fourth to cut the Barton deficit to three.
The Lady Beavers scored three in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to 7-1.
Barton tried to battle back in the seventh, scoring two runs. The first came from a Jordan Haney sacrifice fly, and the second came on a Pratt fielding error.
Alex Dunlavy took the loss for the Lady Cougars, dropping her record to below .500 for the first time this season at 4-5.
In the second game, Pratt scored its lone run in the second inning, but the Lady Cougars quickly struck back in the top of the third as Darian Hudson scored on a Haney single.
Barton capitalized on a Pratt passed ball in the fourth as Emilia Davies raced home to give Barton a 2-1 advantage.
The Lady Cougars held the slim lead into the sixth when freshman Morgan Rohrbouck added to it by connecting on her sixth home run of the season. They added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, courtesy of another Pratt error to lead 4-1.
Haney, who went the distance for the Lady Cougars, picked up her third win of the season to improve to 3-6.
Barton travels to Garden City on Wednesday for a doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m.
