Miasato, Navarro pick up win at No. 1 doubles

PLANO, Texas – The No. 1 doubles team of Marcel Miasato and Juan Navarro picked up the only win on the court for the Barton men’s tennis team on the opening day of the NJCAA Championships in Plano, Texas.
The Cougars also had a couple teams receive first round byes, putting one single’s player and a pair of doubles team in the second round.
The rest of the Cougars were put in the consolation draw after opening round losses.
Miasato and Navarro won a pair of close sets over Jones County’s Diego Leal and Taqel Lewis. The Cougar duo won 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the second round. In the second round, Barton will get the No. 4 seed in the draw in Abraham Baldwin’s Eymeric Chevalier and Elvyn Nguyen.
Also moving into the second was Ray Strunk at No. 6 singles and the No. 3 doubles team of Juan Jaimes and Triston Herbst after receiving first round byes.
Strunk will get the draw’s third seed in Colton Phillips of Abraham Baldwin in the second round.
Jaimes and Herbst will take on Sybrand Cnossen and Matthew Story of host Collin County in the second round.
Barton’ Giovanni Fragalle nearly pulled out a first round win, taking the first set by a 6-0 count over Charlie Mackh of DuPage. But Mackh rallied to win 6-4 and 6-4 the final two sets and send Fragalle to the loser’s bracket.
Navarro also put up a battle at No. 2 singles, losing 6-3, 6-3 to Kukutla Motjlojoa of New Mexico Military. Miasato lost 6-4, 6-1 in his opening round match at No. 1 singles to Sebastian Osorio of Copiah-Lincoln.
Kaio Sato and Jaimes lost their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and No. 5.
Sato and Fragalle split their first two sets and No. 2 doubles before retiring and moving into the consolation draw as well.
