With 55 student athletes earning academic awards through the NJCAA and several teams among the top five nationally in grade point average, it should come as no surprise the Barton athletic department was among the top in the Jayhawk Conference.
In fact, the Cougars were the top team academic team in the Jayhawk.
The Cougars finished the past academic season with a 3.27 department-wide GPA, well ahead of the second best in the conference. That belonged to Allen County at 3.06.
The Cougars had five sports finish with the highest GPA in the conference. Volleyball, men’s soccer, men’s basketball and men’s indoor track and baseball all posted the highest GPA’s in the Jayhawk.
All but one sport finished in the top three in the conference with the exception of one.
The Cougars have more sports than any other school in the conference with 18 if you split indoor and outdoor track. Of those, 16 had a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The conference average was 2.90.
