Dionne Harris said goodbye to the regular season with a big game on Saturday night.
The Barton Community college women’s basketball team got a its eighth double-double out of the 5-foot-11 freshman post player against Pratt.
The Cougars, 20-10 overall and 12-4 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division, closed its regular season with a 72-42 win over the Lady Beavers.
Harris had a career night, grabbing 19 rebounds to top her previous career-high 18 against Barclay and scoring 26 points, besting her total against the Bethany junior varsity, 23. If that wasn’t enough, Harris also topped her career-high for steals with six, just one more than she had against Barclay.
Cloud County dropped its game with Hutchinson on Saturday night, 83-53, knotting it and BCC in the West standings.
Because Seward County finished ahead of Butler in the standings Cloud County wins the tiebreaker, making Barton the No. 3 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region VI tournament.
The BCC women will host either Labette or Fort Scott on Tuesday night at 7, depending on a coin toss today. Admission will be free for the game.
Pratt opened the game with a minute-long possession fueled by a pair of offensive rebounds. In that possession, Holly Martin was sent to the free-throw line to shoot two shots.
She missed them. Such was the luck of the Lady Beavers, who shot 15.4 percent from the field.
Barton responded with a four points to take a quick lead on a Raven Adams jumper and a Shea Shoemaker drive to the basket.
Adams finished the game with 12 points.
Pratt tied the game back up at the 15:25 mark with two points each from Whitney Bates and Ann Pauly.
From the 15-minute mark to 2:54, the Cougars kept Pratt completely silent, going on a 23-0 run.
In that run, Alisha Fanshier, who put in 12 points for the Cougars, dropped a pair of back-to-back 3-pointers from the left side of the basket and Harris scored her first six points including a put back and a pair of driving layups.
Harris, who grabbed eight rebounds in the first half, tied Shoemaker with four steals in the first half to lead the Cougars, who combined for 14 in the first 20 minutes.
Barton took a 34-10 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
