Bat Cats down Dodge City
Great Bend Bat Cat Armani Raygoza stayed red hot. Reliever Tyrus Riley worked his magic out of the bullpen.
The Bat Cats outscored the Dodge City A’s 10-5 in Monday’s non-league baseball game. Nick Parton delivered the key hit with a bases-loaded double. The Bat Cats scored six runs in their final four at-bats.
“We’re confident we’ll score runs no matter which guys we’re playing,” said Bat Cats coach Jonathan Mariani. “We’re pleased with everyone we play.”
The Bat Cats (20-6, 15-3 Jayhawk) play Haysville Thursday for a 6 p.m. doubleheader. The Great Bend Bombers 16-and-under team will play at 3:30 against the Salina Eagles at Al Burns Memorial Field.
Dodge City led 2-0 when Dawson Stutz singled home Cooper Schneider and Jordan Black in the first inning. Raygoza singled home JoJo Nieves and Connor Chavez and Raygoza scored on first-inning wild pitches for a 3-2 lead. Nieves scored on an error after stealing second and third base for a 4-2 lead.
Dodge City’s Brian Gardner singled and scored on a throwing error after Jordan Rodriguez singled on a perfect hit-and-run in the fourth inning. Black singled in Rodriguez for a 4-4 tie after 41/2 innings.
