Early November finds the sixth-ranked Barton Community College men’s soccer team shooting for another run at an NJCAA national tournament berth.
The Cougars have one more obstacle — Western Texas.
On Saturday, Barton challenges the Westerners for a Plains district title and a national tournament berth in Snyder, Texas, starting at 2 p.m.
While there, the Cougars will see a familiar face in Westerners head coach Shawn Uhlenhake, who coached the Lady Cougars soccer team last season.
Uhlenhake coached at Barton for one year before taking the job at Western Texas. He has led the No. 14-ranked Westerners to a 9-2 record.
The Cougars (16-2-1) are led in goals scored by freshman Ebu Camara and sophomore Sam McCrillis.
McCrillis scored two goals in Barton’s 2-0 win over Johnson County in the NJCAA Region VI championship game last Sunday to tie Camara’s season total of 18.

Barton volleyball team advances to NJCAA Region VI semifinal
The Barton volleyball team took its first step into the postseason on Tuesday night, beating Pratt in four games at Kirkman Activity Center.
The Lady Cougars won the first-round NJCAA Region VI match, 25-21, 26-28, 25-20 and 25-23.
Barton (13-18), advances to a semifinal match on Saturday at Newman University in Wichita.
The match starts at 10 a.m., and the Lady Cougars will play the winner of No. 17-ranked Hutchinson and Cloud County, who squared off last night.
Barton’s Taylor Littleton was named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week, which was announced earlier this week.
A 2011 Derby High School graduate, the 6-0 sophomore middle blocker from Wichita was Barton’s go-to hitter last week as she hit .456 in leading Cougars to two conference victories.
In Barton’s sweep at Pratt, Littleton hit .471 with seven blocks then followed that performance with a .444 six-block performance against Cloud County.
Spending most of her freshman season behind 2011 All-American Paula da Silva, Littleton is making the most of her season, ranking 33rd nationally in blocks per game. — Barton sports info.
