Sands finishes fifth in triple jump

Leevan Sands of the Bahamas finished fifth in the triple jump on Thursday at the Summer Olympics in London.
Sands, who attended Barton Community College from 2000-02, recorded a distance of 17.19 meters.
The United States’ Christian Taylor and Will Claye finished first and second, respectively. Fabrizio Donato of Italy claimed the bronze.

The Jamaican 4x100-meter relay team finished fourth in the qualifying round of the event on Thursday.
The relay team crossed the finish line at 42.37 seconds, a season-best time for the Jamaicans.
Samantha Henry-Robinson, Sherone Simpson, Shillonie Calvert and Kerron Stewart ran in the second heat of the first round for Jamaica. Campbell-Brown was an alternate.
