The Barton Community College volleyball team did not get off to a good start to the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference season on Wednesday night.
The Lady Cougars, who are the reigning NJCAA Region VI champions the past two seasons, fell to No. 14-ranked Seward County in a three-game sweep at Kirkman Activity Center.
In a rematch of the 2011 Region VI championship game, Seward (1-4 overall) controlled the first set, winning 25-19. The Saints then escaped with narrow 27-25, 26-24 victories to complete the sweep.
Barton defeated Seward in two matches last year in the Region VI double-elimination playoffs. Seward won the first championship match in five sets, forcing a second match.
Barton won in four sets to advance to NJCAA tournament. The Lady Cougars lost to Western Wyoming and Temple, ending their season.
BCC (0-5) will have a week to make adjustments before traveling to Garden City on Wednesday night to take on the Lady Broncbusters. Game time is set for 6:30 at the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex.
