LYONS — St. John double winner Quade Smith and Central Plains double winner Blaine Hickel helped lead relay teams to gold-medals at Friday's Lyons Track Invitational.

Smith swept the 800 (2:10.3) and 1,600 (4:53.14). The Tigers' quartet of Braxton Alpers, Ian Dunn, Jace Reyes and Smith won the 1,600-meter relay (3:46.45) and 3,200-meter relay (9:12.14).

Hickel won the long jump (20-8) and 100 (11.25) and joined Eli Hurley, Joel Schreiber and Callun Rogers on the 400-meter relay (45.83). The Central Plains boys (70) placed third. The Oilers compete Tuesday at Ellsworth.

“It was great to see the athletes improve this week," said Central Plains track coach Dustin Robison. "The hard work shows in their improvement. We  want to keep making personal growth throughout the season.” 

Other first-place winners were Ellinwood's Logan Panning, 400 (51.3); and Macksville's Aiden Katz, 300-meter hurdles (44.1). 

Runner-up finishes were earned by Central Plains' Eli Hurley, long jump (19-6); Hickel, 200 (22.89); Broc Klima, 300 hurdles (45.65); Macksville's Aiden Katz, 110 hurdles (17.35); Ellinwood's Gabrielle Martinez, pole vault (9-6); and Larned's 400 relay (46.35) of Jeron Debes, James Garetto, Dalen Rasmussen and David Colglazier.

GIRLS DIVISION — Larned's Kaylee Hagerman enjoyed a strong performance with a first-place in the 200 (26.75) and runner-up medals in the long jump (16-71/2), triple jump (35-2) and 400-meter relay (51.34) with Taeten Reynolds, Akielah Collins and Beltz. Larned (88.5) finished second behind Little River (121).

Larned's first-place winners were Cara Herbert, 100 hurdles (17.93) and Cadee Upson, shot put (37-111/2). Cadee Upson placed runner-up in the discus (105-1).

Returning 1A state champion Mayce Russell won the javelin (124-81/2).

Runner-up finishers were Central Plains' Lauren Oeser, javelin  (120-11/2); Logan Sanders, shot put (38-11/2); and St. John's Lydia Reed, 800 (2:34.74).
