KINSLEY – No. 8 state-ranked Otis-Bison stayed unbeaten by beating Kinsley 42-39 in Tuesday’s Central Prairie League basketball games.

The Cougars (9-0, 3-0 CPL) were paced by Maddie Wiltse with 13 points and Danica Bartonek added nine points. Kinsley (5-4, 2-1 CPL) was led by Demi Saenz with 14 points.

ROZEL – Kiowa County outscored Pawnee Heights 25-5 to steal a 62-50 Southern Plains Iroquois basketball victory over the Tigers.

Pawnee Heights (6-3 1-3) was led by Fabian Flores with 13 points and Alec Carlson with 10 points.

The No. 8 state-ranked 1A Tigers (7-2, 3-0 CPL) were paced by Marshall Woolf with 12 points and Tanner Halling added 10 points.

Ellinwood (7-2, 2-2 CPL) was paced by David Hammeke with 19 points.

ST. JOHN — Ellinwood’s girls escaped with a thrilling 39-36 overtime basketball victory over St. John in Tuesday’s Central Prairie League basketball game.

Ellinwood’s Brittney Simpson blocked a tying attempt by Darby Smith on the game-ending play. Ashtin Klepper hit a 3-pointer and Bella Baker passed to Allison McReynolds for a 37-34 lead.

Ellinwood’s Mya Maxwell passed to Daphne Doll for the game-tying field goal for a 30-30 tie after regulation. Ellinwood outscored the Tigers 14-5 after trailing 25-16.

Ellinwood (6-3, 3-1 CPL) was paced Maxwell with 12 points and Doll with 11 points. Hard-luck St. John (3-6, 0-3 CPL) was led by Darby Smith with 11 points.

LACROSSE – Macksville’s Harley Blaske scored 12 points, but the Mustangs lost 59-40 to LaCrosse in Tuesday’s Central Prairie League basketball game.

“Lacrosse shot it really well and we struggled to put it in the basket,” said Macksville coach Jeff Kuckelman. “They moved the ball well and got open shots. We gave up too much penetration which helped create their open shots. We did a good job of getting rebounds, but they didn't miss many shots.”
