HOISINGTON 61, SMOKY VALLEY 55

LINDSBORG — Hoisington’s Hunter Hanzlick converted three free throws as the Cardinals rallied past Smoky Valley 61-55 in Tuesday’s Central Kansas League basketball opener. 

Super sophomore Bralen Thompson led the Cardinals (4-1, 1-0 CKL) with 22 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and four assists. Mason Haxton added 15 points. The Cardinals converted 28 of 46 free throws to outscore the Vikings by 14 points at the foul line. 

The Cardinals outscored the Vikings 38-16 after trailing 24-13 for a 51-40 lead. Smoky Valley (2-4, 0-1 CKL) was limited to one field goal in a 12-minute second-half stretch.

LINDSBORG — Kerington Haxton converted three free throws and Ellie Brumbaugh and Kaylie Ryan hit fourth-quarter baskets for a 44-40 victory over Hoisington in Tuesday’s Central Kansas League basketball opener. Smoky Valley (3-3, 1-0 CKL) was paced by Haxton and Brumbaugh with 12 points apiece.

The Cardinals got within 39-37 when Brumbaugh hit a key basket. Hoisington (1-4, 0-1) nearly rallied from a 10-point deficit, but fell shy. Supersub Isabelle Gonzalez led the Cardinals with nine points off the bench and Brielle Romeiser added eight points.

OTIS — Stafford's Ethan Hildebrand scored 14 fourth-quarter points to rally the Trojans past Otis-Bison 58-55 in Tuesday’s non-league basketball game. Hildebrand scored 27 points as Stafford outscored the Cougars 23-16 in the fourth quarter.

Dalton Regan scored 24 points and Jayce Kohls added 14 points for the Cougars. Otis-Bison (2-5) led 39-35 after three quarters.

KINSLEY — Sophomore Elijah Delp scored a career high 15 points and Collin Halling added 10 points as St. John rolled past Kinsley 57-35 in Tuesday’s Central Prairie League basketball game.

"Eli Delp and Toby Woolf both played pretty well," said St. John coach Clint Kinnamon.

Standout Tanner Halling missed the game with an illness. The No. 8 state-ranked 1A Tigers (6-2, 2-0 CPL) led 29-13 at halftime.

Macksville (4-3) led 38-14 at halftime. Kuckelman had four steals. Rogelio Ibarra had four assists. Alexis Barron grabbed eight rebounds.
