OTIS-BISON 50, ST. JOHN 0

ST. JOHN – Otis-Bison quarterback Kaden Foust accounted for five touchdowns to spark the Cougars past St. John 50-0 in Friday’s football opener.

Foust scored on runs of 4, 9 and 45 yards. He scored on a 52-yard punt return and completed a 29-yard scoring strike to Ky Schwartz. Foust had 91/2 tackles.

Cougar Christian Roth scored on a 61-yard kickoff return and a 57-yard run. The Cougars rushed for 171 yards.

St. John’s Caden McCandless rushed for 68 yards and accounted for 10 tackles. St. John (0-1) lost three fumbles and committed four turnovers.

PRATT 68, HOISINGTON 18

PRATT – The Hoisington Cardinals led Pratt 11-8 when Pratt’s Luis Orozco dropped a snap from punt formation. Orozco ran for a first down when the Cardinals’ punt contain vanished.

Pratt (1-0) converted a touchdown and scored the next 40 points to rout the shocked Cardinals 68-18 in Friday’s football opener. The Cardinals lost seven fumbles, including two on kickoffs.

Pratt’s Max Younie (52, 69), Enoch Walton (8, 37) and Trevor Stimatze (2, 3) each scored two touchdowns for Pratt’s 472-yard rushing game. Walton gained 159 yards and Younie 110 yards as Pratt rushed for 491 yards.

Cardinal Logan Robinson scored on 33- and 57-yard runs and Sam Baldyga added a 26-yard field goal.

“We’ve got to tackle better,” said Hoisington coach Zach Baird. “We didn’t play physical football. We’ll see who shows up next week.”

NESS CITY 32, MACKSVILLE 20

NESS CITY – Ness City outscored Macksville 26-0 after halftime to rally for a 34-20 Central Prairie League football victory Friday.

Macksville quarterback Ryan Kuckelman scored on 1- and 2-yard runs and completed an 18-yard touchdown pass to freshman Hector Gomez for a 20-6 halftime lead. Kuckelman rushed for 127 yards and passed for 76 yards. Kuckelman recovered a fumble with nine tackles.

Ness City quarterback Jose Guzman rushed for four scores and completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Danny Guzman to ignite the rally. Jose Guzman scored on 10- and 25-yard second-half touchdowns runs. The Eagles' Gavin Schreiber and Jose Guzman recovered Macksville fumbles to set up two second-half scores. 

“We were a totally different football team the second half,” said Macksville coach Kyle Bright. “We started slow and never recovered. But our younger guys got their first varsity experience. We had a lot of firsts.”

KINSLEY – Kinsley scored five consecutive touchdowns after trailing for a 38-6 football victory over Central Plains. Kinsley's Conner Chamberlain and Dylan Haselhorst each scored two touchdowns. Alex Garcia gained 97 yards and Kinsley rushed for 279 yards. It marked the first time in six tries that the Coyotes beat the Oilers.

Cole Lamatsch scored the Central Plains touchdown. The Oilers (0-1) lost three fumbles.

OLPE – Defending 1A state champion Olpe roared past Ellinwood 68-0 in Friday’s non-league football opener. Olpe quarterback Damon Redeker returned three punts for touchdowns and completed touchdown passes to Blake Redeker and Eric Hoelting.

Damon Redeker ran back-to-back punt returns for scores after completing a 29-yard touchdown strike to his brother Blake Redeker. Ellinwood lost 12 yards on 43 offensive plays with two turnovers.

STAFFORD — Stafford quarterback Dylan Gantz completed two touchdown passes to Josh Hildebrand and rushed for a touchdown in a 52-6 opening victory over Fairfield.

Tai Hildebrand rushed for two touchdowns and gained 100 yards. The Trojans lost four fumbles. Stafford's Colson Minks recovered two fumbles and Brody Kerschenske recovered a fumble. Angel Dominguez and Gantz intercepted passes. 

Fairfield’s Brady Fowler completed a touchdown pass to Camre Haumont.
