The Barton Community College eSports squad concluded the final week of the regular season in style netting the first of two undefeated regular seasons and boasting a 7-4 week securing its sixth straight winning week.
Capping the nine-week season with a combined 65-26 overall record, the Cougars will send six into next week’s start of the NJCAAE postseason.
The Rocket League squad kicked the strong week off earning a must-win 3-0 victory over Crowder College locking them into a prime position for an at-large postseason bid.
In Tuesday’s individual action, Davon Morris, Lyons, become the first-ever Barton eSports competitor to achieve a perfect regular season at 9-0 blowing out his opponent from Navarro College 2-0 with wins of 44-12 and 49-14. One of two undefeated gamers throughout the Madden 21 regular season, Morris will enter as the 2nd-seed while teammate Chance Costello, St. Louis, Mo., worked his way into the postseason as the 11th-seed with a 2-0 (31-13, 19-3) victory over Carl Albert State.
Securing a spot following last week’s result the Barton Rainbow 6 Siege squad made it seven straight match victories sweeping Shawnee Community College 2-0. Since falling 2-1 in the season opener, the group will ride its’ 14 consecutive round victories into the NJCAAE playoffs.
Fifth-ranked Nicholas Kohman, Great Bend, highlighted last Wednesday’s two Super Smash Brother matchups earning a 3-0 triumph over Costal Bend College concluding his season at 6-2 while teammate Trent Keffer, Lyons, dropped his battle to Southwest Wisconsin Tech 3-0 capping his campaign at 4-5.
Top-ranked Adam Hardin, Wakefield, and Kindric Castro, Larned, concluded the Cougars’ second undefeated regular season in Thursday’s Call of Duty: Cold War 2v2 with a 3-0 victory over Gogebic Community College keeping their 24-match winning streak alive. Teammates Keffer and Bryce Hopkins, Hoisington, saw their season come to a close at 5-3 overall falling to Coastal Bend Community College 3-0.
Capping the week securing the sixth and final playoff spot was the Overwatch group earning a 3-0 sweep over Eastern Arizona College moving their winning streak to three straight.
Unable to advance into the postseason, having their seasons come to a close, were Call of Duty 4v4 falling 3-0 to Gogebic Community College, COD: Gun Fight 2v2 of Hopkins and Keffer losing 3-0; and NBA2K competitor Joshua Neal, Salina, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Carl Albert State.
Postseason brackets will be revealed Monday evening with playoff action beginning next week and run through Dec. 12.
