Bat Cats roll past Mulvane Patriots

MULVANE – Great Bend Bat Cat Trent Touchet started Tuesday’s hit parade with a two-run homer. Sparkplug Seth Kenagy finished off a solid 9-5 victory over the Mulvane Patriots with a three-run homer. The Bat Cats (3-2, 2-0 Sunflower League) play Mulvane at home Wednesday at Al Burns Field.

Great Bend’s Brady Michel led a nine-hit attack with four singles.

Starting Bat Cat pitcher Adrian Talavera threw five effective innings while yielding one unearned run. Relievers Brian Shadrick, Ryan Peters and Brayden Smith finished the game.

Touchet drilled a two-run first-inning homer for the second consecutive night to bring home Chandler Bloomer. Mulvane scored an unearned first-inning run when Brett Hawkins scored after back-to-back singles and throwing errors.

Bloomer’s two-run double scored Alex Rodgers and Kenagy to spark a three-run sixth inning. Bloomer scored on a wild pitch for a 5-1 lead.

Mulvane’s Colby Standard doubled home Hawkins for a 5-2 score after six innings. Shadrick retired Hilton Brown and Brandon Ryan to work out of further trouble.

Kenagy drove home Ryan Thompson with a seventh-inning groundout for a 6-2 lead. Mulvane’s Hawkins and Standard drove home seventh-inning runs. Reliever Peters retired Hilton Brown to preserve a 6-4 lead.

Kenagy drilled a three-run ninth-inning homer off Cashe Stone to drive home Ryan Thompson and Alex Rodgers for a 9-4 lead.

Standard drove home Tyler Push for Mulvane’s final ninth-inning run.
