Bat Cats win series over Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Great Bend Bat Cats defeated the Oklahoma City Indians 10-4 Sunday to win two-of-three games. The team returned to Great Bend at 4 a.m. Monday after a 270-mile trip.
The Bat Cats play at Dodge City Tuesday before returning home to face Dodge City Wednesday at Al Burns Field.
“It depends on your starting pitching,” said Great Bend coach Roger Ward. “Overall, our pitching has been good.”
• INDIANS 12, BAT CATS 10 — The Oklahoma City Indians led 6-0 and held off the Great Bend Bat Cats 12-10 Saturday to win their first Jayhawk League game. The Bat Cats pulled within 11-10, but went scoreless in the final three innings against reliever Rowdy Reihs.
Great Bend’s Mateo Zunica and Jordan Wilkerson each homered and drove home three runs. Hunter Romero also homered. Bat Cats starter Alejandro Trejo yielded 10 runs and eight hits in 22/3 innings.
Romero homered and Sinks was hit by a pitch to force home a second-inning run. Wilkerson’s two-run homer drove home Corrigan Bartlett in the third inning. Bartlett’s sacrifice fly scored Michael Sinks in the fifth inning.
Zunica’s three-run homer drove home Brooks Asher and Brandon Bachar in the fifth inning. Dawson Pomeroy scored on a sixth-inning error and Bartlett scored on a Asher’s sixth-inning groundout.
Oklahoma City’s Sean Dixson drove in four runs. Samuel Melot threw 31/2 innings to earn the victory. Rowdy Reihs pitched three innings to earn the save.
• BAT CATS 10, INDIANS 4 — Benjamin Sems drove in four runs on three hits to lead Great Bend past the Oklahoma City Indians 10-4 Sunday.
Sems’ sacrifice fly scored Wilkerson and Payton Barnes drove home Taylor Langston in the second inning. Sems’ two-run homer scored Langston and Brennan Fontenot scored on a third-inning error for a 5-0 lead.
Langston scored on Sems’ RBI triple and Barnes’ single scored Sems to start a five-run fifth inning. Sinks’ two-run homer scored Bachar. Fontenot’s single scored Romero for a 10-0 lead after five innings.
Winning pitcher Gyeongju Kim pitched five innings with eight strikeouts for back-to-back strong outings. Alex Ruxlow, Dawson Pomeroy and Taylor Langston three in relief.
Corrigan Bartlett, Sems, Romero, Langston, Barnes, Sinks, and Brennan Fontenot each collected multiple hits.
