For one glorious night, it was Bodi Wallar's world. We're just all living in it.
Great Bend Bat Cat Wallar drilled a pair of 3-run homers and drove home seven runs in a bounce-back 17-1 Sunflower Collegiate baseball victory over the Kingman Islanders. Wallar ripped a 3-run first-inning homer and 3-run fourth-inning homer.
"It was pretty awesome," said Wallar. "I was looking for one pitch and got it a few times. It all fell together tonight."
The Hutchinson Community College hitter was Papillion, Neb. rallied to break a 3-game losing streak for the Bat Cats (20-6, 16-5). The 4-game series resumes Friday at Kingman. The Bat Cats roared to a 13-0 lead before Kingman scored a sixth-inning run on a Fabian Perez RBI single.
"We had good swings and didn't leave guys on base," he said. "We got it done tonight from top-to-bottom."
Reserve Brady Kreutzer drilled a 3-run sixth-inning homer for a 17-1 lead Leadoff man Alex Rodgers stayed on fire with three hits, three runs scored and an RBI. Dre Amaral contributed a pair of doubles and three RBIs. JoJo Nieves drove in a pair of runs.
Bat Cat starter David Stuart (3-0) struck out four batters in 52/3 innings. Reliever Cade McWilliams benefited from a seventh-inning 4-6-3 double play by second baseman Hunter Gotreaux and shortstop Dre Amaral.
