HOISINGTON — There will be a hamburger/hot dog benefit feed for Mallory Flagor, who has qualified for a national volleyball tournament with her club team, the Kansas Jets.
The benefit dinner will be on Thursday, June 23, beginning at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hoisington Activity Center. The dinner, which consists of a hamburger/hot dog, chips, dessert and a drink, is $5. Free will donations are also accepted.
The national tournament is being held in Atlanta, Ga.
The Jets are one of four teams from Kansas that qualified for the national tournament. The other three teams are from the Kansas City, Kan., area.
Flagor, who has competed with the Jets for the last two years, also plays volleyball and basketball for Hoisington High School.
“This is a great accomplishment for her,” Hoisington’s head volleyball coach Tina Johnson said. “She has worked her tail off to get this far. All of the girls on her team were all-state players for their teams. It is really special for her to be the only player going to nationals from this part of Kansas.”
It is the first time the Jets, which has athletes from Manhattan, Junction City, Abilene, McPherson, Salina and Hoisington, have qualified for the national tournament.
To qualify for the national tournament, teams must win a regional qualifier in the Hearts of America region.
Celebrating Home will be selling home and garden accessories at the feed. The company has offered to donate 50 percent of the proceeds to the benefit.
