Bombers 8U Silver wins Wichita tourney

The 8U Great Bend Bombers Silver improved their season record to 36-1 by winning the Southwest Boys Club Wichita Tournament this past weekend. The Bombers went 2-0 in pool play Saturday by defeating Ark City 16-2 and Wichita Reds 14-4. On Sunday the Bombers opened the semi-finals with a 13-5 run-rule of Wichita Arsenal and then held on to beat Wichita Hurricane 13-12 for the championship. Additionally, 8U Silver wrapped up the league title with a sweep of Hays Jays Tuesday night. Last action for Bombers Silver will be July 8-10 at the Hap Dumont State Tournament in Wichita.
Bombers 9U battled its way to a 5th place finish in Derby and continue to see positive improvement and growth in their season. In Saturday pool play action, Bombers opened up with a 10-3 victory over McPherson and then lost to 10U Wichita Shockers 11-1. In the final game of the day they fell short to Wichita Little Shockers 7-1. Sunday saw the Bombers sweep a pair of victories over Valley Center Thunder 7-6 and Wichita Red Sox 10-1 to win their side of bracket. With the victories they improve their season record to 20-17-1 against a tough schedule that has included some of the top 10-under teams in the state. Bombers 9-U will wrap up the regular season over the next two weeks and will play Hap Dumont State July 8-10 in Anthony where 15 teams will try for the State Title.
