Hoisington softball dominates Nickerson

HUTCHINSON – Hoisington/Central Plains showed off all three phases – hitting, pitching and defense – to continue a 15-1 softball run through the Central Kansas League.

The Cardinals (17-1, 15-1 CKL) dominated Nickerson 16-1 and 20-0 to secure the No. 1 seed in the Hays softball regional. The Cardinals play Smoky Valley Thursday at home.

CARDINALS 16, PANTHERS 1 (G1) – Hoisington’s Kashlin Beck showcased the Cardinals’ speed and power with a pair of inside-the-park home runs in 95-degree heat. Beck drilled a 3-run and a 2-run homer and drove home six runs. Addyson Ogle and Mollie Steiner each drove home two runs. Kadence Urban, Kassidy Nixon, Jordyn Boxberger and Ava Henry each drove in a run.

Pitcher Kassidy Nixon (10-0) struck out four batters in four scoreless innings. Nickerson’s Tenley Kaufmann doubled home Kalyse Abernathy after a double in the fifth inning against reliever Emma Willesden.

CARDINALS 20, PANTHERS 0 (G2) – Hoisington’s Ava Henry took center stage in the nightcap with two doubles and five runs batted home.  Nixon backed her up with a triple and four runs batted home. Boxberger and Shaylah Kempke each drove in two runs. Gracie Aylward, Urban, Mollie Steiner and Beck each drove in a run.

The Cardinals scored 10 runs in the second inning and nine runs in the fourth inning.

Pitcher Boxberger (7-1) struck out four batters and yielded singles to Nickerson’s Abernathy, Lanaya Hada and Kaitlyn Daines.
