HOISINGTON BOYS 56, SMOKY VALLEY 37

HOSINGTON — Cardinal Drew Nicholson scored 21 points and sidekick Mason Haxton added 16 points as Hoisington stunned Smoky Valley in Tuesday’s non-league basketball game. 

Braxton Donovan dished out five assists with three steals. The Cardinals outscored the Vikings 21-9 from 3-point range as the Vikings made 3 of 21 attempts.

The Cardinals (2-3) used a 10-0 scoring streak for a 21-7 third-quarter advantage. Lane Schrag and Cole Brumbaugh each scored seven points. The Vikings (3-3) upset 3A state champion Halstead 46-43 last week behind Lane Schrag’s 12 points.

HOISINGTON GIRLS 29,  SMOKY VALLEY 28

HOSINGTON — Hoisington’s Suzanna Schneider scored the go-ahead basket in the second overtime as the Cardinals survived 29-28 over Smoky Valley in a non-league basketball game. Maleigha Schmidt scored 10 points for the Cardinals (2-3).

Smoky Valley’s Ashlyn Bryant converted two free throws to send the game to overtime at 23-23. Schmidt sank two free throws and Vikings Kira Haxton and Kaylie Ryan converted free throws for a 25-25 tie after the first overtime.
