HOISINGTON – The Hoisington Cardinals handed Central Kansas League leader Haven its first loss before settling for a split of Tuesday’s doubleheader. Haven won the nightcap 13-5.

CKL leader Haven (14-2, 13-1 CKL) plays Hesston May 7 and Smoky Valley May 11. Hoisington (12-4, 10-4) plays smoky Valley May 6 and Nickerson May 11

CARDINALS 6, WILDCATS 3 (G1)  — Kadence Urban set the tone with a three-run homer to spark a 6-run first inning. Gracie Aylward singled and Keeley Wolf reached on an error before scoring on Urban’s homer off losing pitcher Maguire Estill. 

Shaylah Kempke walked and scored on an error. Mollie Steiner’s single scored Kortney Lang and Jordyn Boxberger for a stunning 6-1 lead.

Hoisington pitcher Kassidy Nixon struck out 10 batters and yielded four hits against a Haven team batting .450. Nixon ended the game in style by striking out Sadie Estill to end the ballgame.

Haven led 1-0 when Maguire Estill’s single scored BrieAnn Brawner in the first inning. The Wildcats scored two runs when Sadie Estill and Brooke Brawner scored on a third-inning error for a 6-3 score. 

WILDCATS 13, CARDINALS 5 (G2) — Haven’s Maguire Estill and Brooke Brawner homered as the Wildcats pounded out 15 hits with five extra-base hits. Brooke Brawner drove home five runs with two hits. Maguire Estill drove home three runs and scored three runs. Amie Yoder drove in two runs.

The Wildcats scored five runs in the second and four more in the third and sixth innings.  

Hoisington’s Lang doubled home Kempke and Jordyn Boxberger singled home Lang in a two-run second inning.  Nixon drilled a two-run homer that scored Kadence Urban in the third inning. Ava Henry homered in the fourth inning.
