Central Plains Oilers shift to 1A

TOPEKA -- The Central Plains Oilers, last year's 2A state boys and girls basketball champions, will shift to 1A basketball in the 2018-2019 activities classifications by the KSHSAA. The 1A state basketball tournament is played at Dodge City.

Western Athletic Conference member Liberal will shift to 6A for the first time in school history.

New 5A members with Great Bend feature WAC member Hays High and perennial basketball powerhouse McPherson. Great Bend will be paired with those schools when regional sites are announced.

Central Kansas League members Larned and Hoisington will compete in the 64-team 3A class along with CKL members Haven, Hesston, Smoky Valley, Halstead and Lyons.

Other Central Prairie League members moving to 1A include Macksville, Kinsley and LaCrosse.
