CENTRAL PLAINS BOYS 60, HOISINGTON 30

CLAFLIN – Oiler Alex Hickel dominated inside with 20 points as Central Plains roared past Hoisington 60-30 in Friday’s non-league basketball opener.

The Oilers’ aggressive man-to-man defense shut down the Cardinals.

Oiler Devin Ryan scored 15 points and converted a trio of 3-pointers in the first period. Brett Liebl added 13 points.

The Oilers led 20-5 when the Cardinals rallied within 23-12. Cardinal Drew Nicholson was called for a charging foul drawn by Myles Menges, which sparked a 9-0 Oiler run for a 32-12 lead.

Nicholson led the Cardinals with 13 points.

CLAFLIN – Oiler Delaney Rugan scored 17 points to ignite the Central Plains girls to a 81-19 basketball victory over Hoisington Friday. The five-time defending state champions have swept 85 consecutive games.

The Oilers’ aggressive fullcourt defense sparked an early 33-4 run. Emily Ryan contributed 13 first-half points, 12 assists and nine steals. Avery Hurley (14) and Kassidy Nixon (11) scored in double figures.

Cardinal Maleigha Schmidt scored six points and Jacquelyn Gonzalez added five points.
