New coach to lead Chase Kats
CHASE – Great Bend native and Barton Cougar graduate Cole Wintholz will guide the Chase Kats football team.
The 2010 Great Bend graduate and 2012 Barton Cougar graduate earned a degree in criminal justice.
Wintholz has coached recreational sports since he was 18 years old. He credits Great Bend coach Jason Duvall for life-changing advice.
“I believed Coach Jason Duvall when he told me that whatever I set my mind to I can be good at,” he said. “I had to quit football because of bad knee issues, but I love the game.”
Chase (0-7, 0-5 District) rides a 26-game losing streak heading to the 2024 football season. The Kats scored two touchdowns against Southern Cloud and one touchdown against Pawnee Heights last year.
Malik Carson, Leland Rice and Duncan McLaren will share quarterback duties.
“Not having very many students is pretty challenging, but we have to make do what we have,” he said.”
Wintholz’s goal is to break the 26-game losing streak and realize that hard work is a excellent life lesson.
“My goal is to win some games,” he said. “I want the players to learn how to be men and how to work hard. A positive year for Chase will be to have these kids learn that hard work does pay off. I want them to develop the skills to be men in the future.”
