Chiefs struggle in Day 2 of tourney

DODGE CITY — The Great Bend AAA American Legion baseball team came out of pool play at the Dodge City tournament on a roll.
Things turned in the semifinal round.
Great Bend lost a pair of games on Sunday to finish in fourth place.
The Chiefs fell 10-2 against host Dodge City and 8-4 against Liberal.
Great Bend started off with the lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first against Dodge City.
Matt Zecha drove in the run, going 1-for-3 on the day.
Dodge City came back in the top of the second, leading 3-1 after two.
Shade Wondra started on the mound. He gave up 12 hits and nine runs (eight earned) in four innings. He had one walk and three strikeouts.
Jaxx Hillman came on in relief, going three innings and giving up two hits and one earned run.
Great Bend, which managed seven hits, were led by Tyler Nuss, who went 2-for-3, and Bryce Beck, who went 2-for-4.
Against Liberal, Great Bend again went ahead in the bottom of the first, leading 2-0.
Liberal took the lead in the third, 4-2, and scored four more runs in the top of the sixth.
Great Bend scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t rally.
Beck pitched the whole game, giving up 13 hits and eight runs (six earned). He had one walk and four strikeouts.
Wondra went 3-for-4 and had two RBIs.
Zecha had an RBI and Dillon Reiser drove in a run.
