Russell softball sweeps Eagles

ELLINWOOD – Russell/Victoria scored 39 runs to roll past Ellinwood’s softball team 21-3 and 18-0 in Thursday’s non-league doubleheader. Ellinwood (1-11) travels to 3A unbeaten powerhouse Hoisington April 26.

RUSSELL 21, EAGLES 3 (G1) – Ellinwood’s Neveah Bowman, Emma Schmidt and Jauzalynn Blanton scored runs for the Eagles. Bowman scored on an error. Schmidt scored on a passed ball. Blanton scored on a stolen base.

Russell pounded out 18 hits and took advantage of five walks and eight Ellinwood errors. Russell’s Haylee Powers drove in three runs with two hits and two runs scored. Harlee Donovan drove in three runs with three hits and three runs scored. Jennifer Klaus drove home two runs.

RUSSELL 18, EAGLES 0 (G2) – Russell’s Tionna Napue homered and drove home two runs. Melany Huser drove in two runs. Ellinwood contributed four walks and 13 errors that led to 13 unearned runs. Russell (6-4) is seeded second behind Hoisington in the 3A Hays softball regional.

Ellinwood’s Emma Nienke and Blanton singled.
