Ellinwood qualifies eight state entries

SMITH CENTER — Ellinwood's Matthew Cook and Koy Behnke competed on three state-qualifying relays in Friday's 2A Smith Center track regional. The Eagles compete May 27-28 at Wichita State.

The Eagles' runner-up 400-meter relay (45.05) competed with Cook, Behnke, Britton Dutton and Cody Zink. The third-place, 1,600-meter relay (3:37.61) ran Cook, Behnke, Dutton and Zink. The third-place 3,200-meter relay (8:52.39) ran Behnke, Cook, Asher Miller and Bryce Steffen.

Ellinwood's individual state qualifiers were Dutton, high jump (5-10); Behnke, 800 (2:10.11); Miller, 1,600 (4:48.96) and 3,200 (10:36.99) and Brittany Simpson, girls long jump (15-33/4).
