WICHITA — The Ellinwood Velocity 10-1 team completed an exceptional club volleyball season in Wichita recently with a 10-0 record that captured the team’s fifth tournament championship.
“These girls performed at a level beyond their age in years all season,” said head coach Greg Maxwell. “It was extremely rewarding to watch them compete and experience the success that they earned.”
The team consisted of Ellinwood third-graders Brynn Widener and Mette Maxwell; Ellinwood fourth-graders Alyvia Batchman, Bennett Jacobs, Addie Stickney, Reece Stickney and Hoisington fourth-grader Sofia Simic and second-grader Mila Simic.
Coaches were Greg Maxwell, Cassie Batchman, Ben Jacobs and Mya Maxwell.
The Velocity 10-1 overall season set record was 59-6. They ended the season ranked as the No. 1 10-and-under team in the Heart of America Region.
Great Bend Velocity 11-2 team handed the Ellinwood Velocity 10-1 team their only match loss of the season at the Velocity Victory Challenge Tournament in Ellinwood. Great Bend Velocity 11-2 were the eventual Heart of America 11 Select Regional Champions ranked as the No. 1 HOA 11-and-under volleyball team for 2019.
Ellinwood Velocity 10-1 competed in six tournaments, four were an age level above playing against 11-year-old teams. Ellinwood Velocity 10-1 won three of four 11-year-old tournaments including a dominating performance to go undefeated and win a 16-team tournament in Kansas City.
Ellinwood Velocity 10-1 won both of the 10 tournaments. They beat the Adidas Dynasty 10-1 team from Kansas City in the Feb. 3 championship in Lawrence.
