GARDEN CITY 7, GREAT BEND 1 — Western Athletic Conference powerhouse Garden City rolled past Great Bend 7-1 to capture the league title in Thursday's match-up. The Panthers (1-10-1, 0-6 WAC) continue to compete for 80 minutes.
Panther Alex Alcala scored a goal (28:00) by beating Garden City goalie Dylan Martinez on a 1-on-1 situation on the left side.
Garden City's playmaker Carlos Guerrero scored a goal and dished out three assists. Also scoring were Diego Padilla, Jesus Dozal, Kelby Joseph, Justin Diaz, Adrian Rivas and Kvasi Nyamekye. Great Bend goalies Eli COntreras and Alan Trendel combined for 10 saves on 17 shots on goal.
Garden City (10-1-1, 6-0-1) clinched the WAC title and drops Great Bend to 1-10-1 (0-6 WAC). The Panthers beat Salina Central 7-0 and tied Wichita West 1-1.

BEREAN ACADEMY 5, GREAT BEND 2 — 3A Elbing Berean Academy outscored the Panthers 5-2 in a non-league soccer match Oct 7. Panther goals were scored by Gio Cruz (3:20) and leading scorers Alex Alcala (20:00).
Berean's Wyatt Friesen tallied a pair of goals.

HESSTON 3, GREAT BEND 1 — The 3A Hesston Swathers showed small-class schools can succeed with a 3-1 victory over 5A Great Bend Oct. 6.
Hesston's Caleb Unruh and Great Bend's Alex Alonso traded penalty-kick goals for a 1-1 tie. Hesston responded with a pair of second-half goals by Briggs Stauffer and Diesel Bergen to seal the 3-1 Victory for Hesston (6-6).
'That's a tough loss for us," said Panther soccer coach Chuy Loera. "The boys are continuing to improve and learn their positions. We made a big leap on the offensive part of our game. Our boys had the most looks and opportunities on goal that we've had all season. Unfortunately, we didn't finish and find the back of the net."
